The 2021 Sunrise Canyon HOA Annual Meeting took place on the afternoon of November 21st. Links to the minutes of that meeting, and the 2022 budget approved budget, are now available on the HOA Matters page of our website.
Due to the warm weather forecast through the first few days of December, the HOA Board has decided that the pool heater will be on through Saturday, December 4th.
This year’s Sunrise Canyon HOA Annual Meeting is being held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the area near the pool. An agenda has been posted on the HOA website’s Sunrise Canyon HOA Matters page. If the agenda is revised, the revised version will be posted there.

The HOA Landscape Committee has developed a document which explains the goal of a more drought-tolerant Sunrise Canyon landscape and how the new landscape contractor (Infinity Earthworks) will be used to move us toward that goal. The Landscape Goals document is available on the HOA website’s Home Appearance and Landscaping page.
The Sunrise Neighborhood Assistance Program (SNAP) has announced that it will end all services and programs by December 31, 2021.
SNAP has been assisting and supporting older adults to remain in their homes as long as possible as they age. The social distancing required during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced SNAP to cease or curtail most services and programs. Even before COVID, however, SNAP saw a dwindling demand for services. This diminished demand has led to SNAP’s decision to close. To see the notice that SNAP has asked be available to all foothills residents, click here. There is a link to the SNAP website on the Important Local Area Information page of our website.
Vince San Angelo passed along the very sad news that Nancy Cox died around 9:00 a.m. today, September 23rd, 2021. I don’t know the details of the cause of her passing. The family intends to have a memorial event at some time in the future, but no plans have yet been made.
Nancy and her husband were among the original residents of the Sunrise Canyon community. Nancy, who I believe was in her 90’s, was always full of energy, opinions and good humor.
I personally enjoyed many Happy Hours with Nancy, even as her mobility was failing in the last couple of years. We would share a chuckle when I would occasionally remind her about her comment to me the first time we met, in the pool in 2012. (Nancy was there with her water-aerobics friends, and I was just floating around trying to cool off.) Nancy asked if I was going to be a full-time resident. I responded that I was going to keep my permanent residence in Oregon, and that I intended to rent my place out some of the time I wasn’t in Tucson. Her response showed displeasure with my intention to allow renters to use my place. But, she did it in such a direct and not-unfriendly manner that I thought we would get along…and we did. I will miss Nancy.
This year’s 2021 Annual Meeting of the Sunrise Canyon HOA will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the area near the pool. When an agenda has been prepared it will be posted on the our website’s Sunrise Canyon HOA Matters page.
Pam Warady had a serious bat problem this past weekend. The bat became entangled in her clothing. Although it didn’t bite her, it did scratch her and broke her skin. So, Pam did the right thing and called Pima Animal Control, which took the bat to be tested. Yesterday, August 4th, they called Pam and reported that the bat was rabid. She has to have a shot tomorrow.
So, please be carefully watchful of bats. And wish Pam well in her treatment, while thanking her for giving the neighborhood this heads-up.
I have sad news to report about Liv Breen. Liv died on Tuesday, May 18th at the nursing home where she had been residing for an extended period. Liv lived in the Sunrise Canyon community for about 20 years.
